Setting up Fibre Channel storage on SLES servers

So I recently had to do a storage setup at work.  Based on some components mentioned above.  There wasn’t really a single end-to-end document online that described the steps, so I figure I might as well write one.  This is likely a super rudimentary delineation of the storage possibilities on Linux, so please regard it as such.

DISCLAIMER: So obviously, I am not to be held responsible for any resulting damage that comes from following these instructions.  Your system is your own, and it is assumed that you’re smart enough to not permanently damage your system.  Thus, by proceeding, you consent to relinquishing any blame or responsibility on the blog author (me) for any damage that would result from reading further.

I’m also going to assume that the physical hookups are complete.  That is, server and storage is properly cabled, properly powered, OS installed, necessary device drivers (network adapters, I/O adapters, etc.) are installed and configured (e.g. the systems are on the same internal network and can ping each other).

So that we have a concrete example to work with, let’s assume that this is our setup:

Assumes rest of configuration is complete. e.g. network & management connections are established

Pork Bone Vegetable Soup - Danny Style

These days, there are a bunch of asian supermarkets (T&T, Foodymart, etc.) where you can buy perishable "soup packs". The one I bought came with a bunch of pork neck bones (actually, likely the vertebrae), winter melon, and a few other Chinese herbs. I also added cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, dried mushrooms, celery, and some salt. I would then pour the hot soup into a bowl that I had put some rinsed watercres in there, to let it cook slightly from the hot soup. Great for a simple, healthy, holistic food for when your mouth is being attacked by cankers, sore throats, or bad colds in general.

Lame Joke of the Day - February 15, 2012

Suggested by a good friend of mine, going to starting posting some of the lame humour that I come across (either from my own mouth, or from others I meet). Here's the first one (requires knowledge of Ace of Base's hits):

Friend: Hmmm, interesting, that Thai food stand looks like it's opening up again.
Dragondan: Yep. Guess their renovations are finally done.
Friend: I thought they were going out of business.
Dragondan: Nope, only closing down for reno's. They had a sign. Didn't you see the sign?
Friend: No, what sign? I didn't see the sign.
Dragondan: Well...I saw the sign...
